About “The Road”
Every journey has a starting point.
“The Road” begins with a person who is separated from God. Sin has marked the journey, and the road ahead leads nowhere good.
But that is not where the story ends.
The journey leads to the cross, where Jesus Christ paid the price for sin. Grace replaces condemnation. The person who calls upon the Lord finds forgiveness, salvation, and a new direction.
That is the story behind “The Road.”
The song was inspired by the Romans Road, a series of Bible passages that explains our need for salvation and God’s answer through Jesus Christ.
My hope is that the song will reach someone who is searching for answers and point that person toward Jesus. For those who already follow Christ, I hope it also serves as a reminder of the grace that brought us to Him.

The Story Behind the Song
I have known the Bible passages commonly called the Romans Road for most of my Christian life.
One thing about the name always stood out to me: the road.
A road suggests a journey. It has a beginning, a direction, and a destination.
That became the idea behind the song.
I began thinking about salvation as a journey. It starts with recognizing that sin has separated us from God. It leads us to the cross and what Jesus Christ did for us. Then comes the decision to call upon Him, place our faith in Him, and begin a new life with Christ.
I wanted “The Road” to tell that story through music.
The primary purpose of the song is to reach someone who has not yet accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior. But the message can also speak to those of us who already follow Christ. We can look back at the road we have traveled and remember the grace of God that brought us to where we are today.
The Scripture Behind “The Road”
“The Road” draws its message from several passages out of the Book of Romans.
Romans 3:23 – For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 10:9 – If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:13 – For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
Together, these Scriptures tell the Gospel story that inspired “The Road.”
Lyrics
Verse
Each step I took led me astray
Further from God's perfect way
Sin had marked my every mile
Death stood waiting all the while
Chorus
There is a road that leads to life
Where mercy conquered sin and strife
My Savior died for all my sins
Now He holds my life down the road of time
Verse
Grace was sealed at the cross
Love stretched beyond every loss
I called His name He welcomed me
His risen life has set me free
Chorus
There is a road that leads to life
Where mercy conquered sin and strife
My Savior died for all my sins
Now He holds my life down the road of time
Bridge
Every journey abounding with grace
Every step I take brings me to a place
Where everlasting life guides my way
I walk with Christ forevermore
Chorus
There is a road that leads to life
Where mercy conquered sin and strife
My Savior died for all my sins
Now He holds my life down the road of time
Ending
There is a road that leads to life
Where mercy conquered sin and strife
My Savior died for all my sins
Now He holds my life
Now He holds my life
Now He holds my life down the road of time
